The Last of Us wraps filming, releases first-look photo
By Ashley Hurst
The Last of Us is one of the most popular video games of all time. With its emotional, high-octane, and cinematic story, the game lends itself to a live-action adaptation. And for the last year, HBO has been filming a series, which has become the largest production in Canadian history. On June 10, today, the show officially wraps.
A first-look image was unveiled by creator Neil Druckmann at this year’s Summer Game Fest. “It’s closer than you might think” he teased. The image shows our two main characters, Joel Miller (Pedro Pascal) and Ellie (Bella Ramsey) hiding from the infected in a dark room. If you look very closely, you may see the vaguest outline of a Clicker in the background. Star Pedro Pascal shared the first look image on his Instagram page.
The shot looks like it’s been ripped right out of the game. The costumes are on point, including Joel’s classic brown jacket and Ellie’s signature pink hoodie.
The Last of Us adds original voice actors Ashley Johnson and Troy Baker to its cast!
In addition to the first-look image, Druckmann also revealed some exciting new additions to the cast. He announced that Ashley Johnson and Troy Baker — the voice actors for Ellie and Joel in the game — will have a part to play in the show. Of course, they won’t reprise their original roles, but that they’re here at all is pretty cool.
Also Johnson and Baker formally introduced us to a trailer for an upcoming The Last of Us remake on the PlayStation 5:
The Last of Us follows Joel Miller, who’s tasked with smuggling Ellie — a 14-year-old girl who appears immune to a deadly zombie virus that’s brought down most of society — out of an oppressive quarantine zone. They travel across the United States to find a group called the Fireflies who hope to study Ellie and create a vaccine. But their journey is not simple, and the living prove just as much of a threat as the dead.
The Last of Us remake will be available on September 2, 2022. We’ll have to wait a little longer for the HBO adaptation. It is now in post-production. No release date has been announced yet, but sometime in 2023 sounds like a good bet.
