Every upcoming Star Wars movie and show, ranked by hype
8. Rangers of the New Republic
Rangers of the New Republic was announced as one of several new Star Wars TV projects a while back. We never learned exactly what it was about, but word is that it would have revolved about Cara Dune, Gina Carano’s character from The Mandalorian. In that show, Cara joined up with the New Republic, so it made sense.
However, Carano got in some hot water with Disney for what the company called “abhorrent and unacceptable” social media comments. After that, the project was seemingly put on hold. It was reported in May that the show was no longer in active development. While Disney has never confirmed that the show is actually dead, its future does not look bright.
Reportedly, this series was planned to intersect with other Star Wars shows like Ahsoka and The Book of Boba Fett, which means Disney may have to do some rewriting. Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy said in Empire Magazine that the series’ plotlines could just be included in future seasons of The Mandalorian.
Would The Rangers of the New Republic have been a good show? We’ll probably never know.
