Neil Patrick Harris joins the cast of Doctor Who
By Ariba Bhuvad
Doctor Who has been creating quite a ruckus over the last few months with announcements and reveals coming at us from all sides. As Jodie Whittaker gets ready to take her final bow as the Doctor later this year, there has been a lot of buzz about what comes after. We’ve got Ncuti Gatwa taking over for her, Russell T. Davies coming back as the showrunner, and the Doctor Who 60th anniversary coming up in 2023.
All of this is beyond thrilling, but I think what I’m most excited about is seeing the 60th anniversary special, which will feature the returns of Catherine Tate and David Tennant as Donna and the Tenth Doctor. There have been leaked images of the two filming the special, which makes it all feel real.
And we just got more reason to be excited, because Independent reports that How I Met Your Mother veteran Neil Patrick Harris will also appear in the special! “It’s my huge honour to open our studio doors for the mighty Neil Patrick Harris,” Davies said, “but who, why, what is he playing? You’ll just have to wait. But I promise you, the stuff we’re shooting now is off the scale. Doctor beware!”
It’s a great time to be a Doctor Who fan, folks!
A cute yet deadly villain will menace the Doctor in the 60th anniversary special
Recently, there have been rumors of an evil creature featured in the anniversary special. This creature is one we’ve seen in the Who-verse before: a terrifying, deadly…cut little white rabbit.
This small baddie is known as Beep the Meep; he was spotted on set and is apparently being played by Tennant’s stunt driver. “Younger viewers will love Beep – he appears to be meek and cute, but he’s as deadly as a Dalek or a Cyberman,” a source told The Mirror.
Beep has not been on the television series before, and will debut during the 60th anniversary special alongside another group of villains known as the Wrarth Warriors. Both the Wrarths and Beep first appeared in the Doctor Who weekly magazine comic strips back in the 1980s in a story involving Tom Baker’s Doctor.
If this is indeed true, then I would say that the special is gearing up to be more epic than any of us ever imagined. I mean, cute cuddly evil rabbits and Neil Patrick Harris? What more could we ask for?
