Solo: A Star Wars Story came out in 2018. It told the story of how a young Han Solo became the lovable scoundrel we know him to be, and audiences did not care; despite generally favorable reactions, the film underperformed at the box office, which cut the legs out from beneath any sequels and spinoff Disney was planning.
And rest assured that they were surely planning sequels and spinoffs; whether it’s Marvel or Star Wars, Disney doesn’t really make anything unless they think they can capitalize on it later with a follow-up or five. That leaves some characters in a lurch, like Qi’ra, the femme fatale played by Game of Thrones Emilia Clarke. Solo ended with the revelation that she was working for a crime syndicate run by Darth Maul. Qi’ra has continued her adventures in the criminal underworld in a series of comics, but has yet to appear again on a screen, big or small.
But Solo writer Jon Kasdan thinks we’ll eventually see these continue. “I think some day we’re gonna see what happened, and how Qi’ra sort of advanced through the world, through the crime syndicates,” he told ScreenRant. “I’ve talked to Jon Favreau about it, and he’s a big fan of [Solo] and some of the stuff we built out. And I said, ‘Well, you’re the guy to figure it out.’ I always look to him to keep the story alive and keep it going.”
"Star Wars is going in so many fun directions. And specifically, I saw that trailer for Andor today, and I thought, ‘Well, Enfys Nest is gonna show up somewhere in that show.’ So I’m hopeful that a lot of those people continue the journos they were on."
Disney is already making one Solo spinoff; will Qi’ra show up?
I tend to agree we’ll see the threads from Solo picked up sooner or later. It’s true that Disney doesn’t do anything that won’t make them money, but they see opportunities to make money absolutely everywhere. Solo may not have set the box office on fire, but it has fans, which should be enough.
In fact, we’re already seeing Disney move forward with some Solo offshoots. They’re working on a Lando show starring Donald Glover as a younger version of Han Solo’s best frenemy, a version he debuted in the 2018 movie. Whether she appears in that or gets her own thing, Qi’ra can’t be too far behind.
