Squid Game season 2 is officially on the way
By Dan Selcke
I’ll confess right now: I assumed that Netflix had already announced that a second season of Squid Game was coming. The Korean-language show dropped in September of last year and quickly became the most successful series in the history of Netflix, a service that has hosted such hits as Stranger Things, Bridgerton, and The Witcher. Of course it was coming back.
And it is, but Netflix made the official announcement only yesterday, giving us what amounts to a moving poster. Check it out below:
The big creepy eye belongs to Young-hee, the robot lady who directed the deadly game of “red light, green light” from the opening episode. Squid Game, as I’m sure you remember, is about a group of financially strapped people recruited to play a series of deadly games for the amusement of a bunch of rich a**holes. Hundreds of contestants were in the game to start, but only Gi-hun made it out alive. At the end of the first season, he vowed to expose the people behind this sick, very entertaining spectacle.
The giant killer robot from Squid Game has a boyfriend
Squid Game writer-director Hwang Dong-hyuk put out a statement about the renewal:
"It took 12 years to bring the first season of Squid Game to life last year. But it took 12 days for Squid Game to become the most popular Netflix series ever.As the writer, director, and producer of ‘Squid Game,’ a huge shout out to fans around the world. Thank you for watching and loving our show. And now, Gi-hun returns. The Front Man returns.Season 2 is coming. The man in the suit with ddakji might be back. You’ll also be introduced to Young-hee’s boyfriend, Cheol-su.Join us once more for a whole new round."
Young-hee has a big robot boyfriend? Good for her.
As of yet, there’s no word on when Squid Game season 2 will be out.
