Created as a web comic by the artist ONE in 2009, One-Punch Man has become one of the big modern anime series that got people interested in the medium again en masse, the other probably being Attack on Titan. While Titan is gloomy and serious, One-Punch Man is delightfully stupid: it’s about a hobbyist superhero named Saitama who is so powerful that not even the most dangerous monsters and supervillains pose even the barest bit of challenge to him. His problem isn’t that his enemies are gunning for him; it’s that without any real obstacles to overcome, he grows bored.

And now, Hollywood is going to make a live-action movie out of it. Deadline reports that Justin Lin is behind the project.

Lin is best known as the director of five Fast & Furious movies, more than any other director. He’s credited with supercharging the series into the powerhouse franchise it is today. He was going to direct the upcoming Fast X, but dropped out without warning. We didn’t know what he was going to do instead…until now.

Anthony Carrigan from Barry should play Saitama in the live-action One-Punch Man movie

It’s way too early to know who might play Saitama, but I’ve long had an idea: Anthony Carrigan, who plays the chipper Chechen gangster from Barry.

I’ll freely admit it’s just because he looks like Saitama in his everyday life: bald as an egg, and very capable of selling comedy. Hank has a brutal, dangerous job, but he’s consistently the most cheerful guy in the room. He could do a great job as the oblivious, child-like, ennui-plagued Saitama.

I’m just putting that out into the universe. Waiting to hear from you, Justin.

Next. Anime that should become live-action series (and anime that shouldn’t). dark
