Maisie Williams is in a new show: Pistol on FX, a docudrama about iconic British punk band the Sex Pistols. That means she’s out doing press, which is yielding some interesting insights about her most famous role: Arya Stark on Game of Thrones.

The other day she featured in a video for Teen Vogue where she answered a variety of questions. One of the more interesting nuggets: she always thought Arya Stark was queer, so the sex scene between Arya and Gendry in season 8 took her by surprise. “The first time that I was surprised by Arya I guess was probably in the final series where she whips off her clothes and sleeps with Gendry,” she said. “I thought that Arya was queer, you know? So…yeah. That was a surprise.”

That scene comes in the second episode of season 8, “A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms.” Arya, knowing that there was a good possibility that she might die in the forthcoming Battle of Winterfell, decided to spend the night with Gendry. When the battle was over and they both survived, he all but proposed to her, but she opted to go her own way.

Maisie Williams: “The first time I was proud of myself was when I got the part in Game of Thrones.”

Williams dropped a few other Game of Thrones tidbits, including:

  • “The first time I was proud of myself was when I got the part in Game of Thrones. I remember feeling like everything I’d ever dreamed of was coming true.”
  • The first-ever scene she filmed for the show was with Kit Harington, who played Jon Snow.
  • She realized Thrones was big when she came to LA for the third season premiere and fans knew her name.
  • The first thing she did after Game of Thrones wrapped was dye her hair pink.
  • She realized she and Sophie Turner would be best friends when they met for their audition.

And so on.

Pistol is airing now on FX and FX on Hulu.
