Ewan McGregor has seen your homoerotic Obi-Wan Kenobi fan art
By Dan Selcke
Ask any big-name actor why they decided to return to a famous role, and they’ll very likely say, “I did it for the fans.” Ewan McGregor named that as one of the reasons he returned to play the title role in Star Wars: Obi-Wan Kenobi. He loves the fact that fans have come around on the Star Wars prequel films since they were released decades ago. “So it’s a really nice feeling for me that that’s the case, that I have a sense now that there’s this warmth for those films,” the actor said during a roundtable interview. “It absolutely is part of the reason I wanted to come back and play him again.”
At the same time, fans can be tricky. They want to see you in that role again, sure, but do they want to see you for its own sake, or are they hoping you’ll kiss your costar who plays your Jedi padawan learner who ended up becoming an interstellar tyrant?
That’s a long way of saying that many Star Wars fans have drawn art of Obi-Wan Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker (Hayden Christensen) exploring each other sexually, and Ewan McGregor has gotten more than a few eyefuls over the years. He revealed as much while talking to GQ. “There’s a lot of homoerotic Obi-Wan/Hayden fan art that gets sent to me now and again,” he said. “I don’t know how it finds me. It’s always a bit of an eyeopener.”
"You open the envelope, you think you’re going to have to sign something, and you’re like, ‘Fucking hell!’"
What we wouldn’t give for live reactions. I vote for you to monetize your surprise, Mr. McGregor.
Ewan McGregor thinks erotic Obi-Wan Kenobi fan art is “a bit of an eyeopener”
Racy fan-fiction and fan art is actually pretty common. I’m not gonna link to anything, but if you wanna see what I’m talking about, Google is right there. If it’s a popular franchise — be it Star Wars, Marvel, Game of Thrones or whatever — there’s homemade porn of it.
Now, I didn’t realize that homemade porn was being sent to the actors it depicts, but I guess I shouldn’t be surprised. I mean, how do they know where to send it? That’s some good sleuthing right there; these artists have multiple talents.
Anyway, new episodes of Obi-Wan Kenobi air on Wednesdays. The season 1 finale (maybe the series finale, depending on how things go) airs next week. The odds of a makeout session between Obi-Wan and Vader are low, but I’m sure fans will pick up the slack.
