Warner Bros. probably won’t cast Ezra Miller in future DC films
By Dan Selcke
Ezra Miller plays Barry Allen, aka the Flash, in the DC Cinematic Universe. Miller will play him again in the upcoming solo The Flash movie, which new WarnerMedia-Discovery CEO David Zaslav is hoping will serve as the foundation for an expansion of the DCEU. The movie has both Michael Keaton and Ben Affleck returning as Batman, the studio spent $200 million on a big multiverse-themed story…they went all out on this.
So Zaslav and crew are no doubt tearing out their hair over Miller’s recent rash of bad behavior. Miller was arrested multiple times in Hawaii — first for starting stuff at a karaoke bar and then for throwing a chair at a party and hitting a woman in the head — and then being accused by multiple families of grooming their young children. According to Deadline, the studio has tried to get Miller help, but the bad headlines keep piling up. At this point, word is that WarnerMedia-Discovery won’t cast Miller in future projects even if no new allegations surface.
“There is no winning in this for Warner Bros,” one source told Deadline. “This is an inherited problem for Zaslav. The hope is that the scandal will remain at a low level before the movie is released, and hope for the best to turn out.”
What will happen to The Flash now that Ezra Miller is getting all this terrible press?
Zaslav has a few choices. He could release The Flash movie as planned but do little press for it, not wanting to risk putting Miller out there to do god-knows-what while the cameras are rolling. He could release the movie straight to HBO Max, or he could just market the movie like normal knowing that Miller wouldn’t return for the sequel he no doubt wants to make.
The Flash is due out on June 23, 2023. How it will be released, we don’t know.
