Game of Thrones is three years gone, but a lot of people still talk about it, which bodes well for the spinoff (possibly spinoffs) that HBO is preparing. In fact, for the week of June 13 to 19, Game of Thrones was discussed more than any other show on Twitter, per Variety. It beat out hot contenders like Stranger Things and Ms. Marvel, which are both in the midst of new seasons.
The uptick in interest is almost certainly due to the news that HBO is developing a sequel series that would catch up with Jon Snow (again played by Kit Harington) after the events of the Game of Thrones series finale. That’s huge, and not something we thought HBO would do, or at least not so soon. Of course people are talking about it.
However, do note that just because HBO is developing a Jon Snow show doesn’t mean it’s guaranteed to air; it may well die in development, as a couple of other Game of Thrones spinoffs have already. Still, it’s worth getting excited over.
Game of Thrones beats Stranger Things and Ms. Marvel to become Twitter’s most discussed show
As for the full list, here’s what shows people on Twitter were talking about over the past week and change:
- Game of Thrones: 253.7K engagements
- Stranger Things: 193.5K engagements
- Ms. Marvel: 128.6K engagements
- Heartstopper: 105.4K engagements
- The Summer I Turned Pretty: 46K engagements
- Euphoria: 41.4K engagements
- Love, Victor: 39.8K engagements
- The Flash: 36.1K engagements
- Hacks: 35.7K engagements
- Outlander: 33.8K engagements
So not only was Game of Thrones the most discussed show of the past week, it beat the competition by a decent margin. Jon Snow packs ’em in.
I expect that chatter will die down once people get over the shock that Jon Snow may return to our screens. But with prequel series House of the Dragon premiering on August 21, I doubt Game of Thrones will be out of the conversation for long.
