House of the Dragon and The Sandman headed to San Diego Comic-Con
By Ariba Bhuvad
After a three-year absence due to the pandemic, San Diego Comic-Con will once again be hosted in the flesh in July! This past week we’ve learned that studios like Marvel will be hosting a panel in the famous Hall H, and now it looks like Warner Bros. Discovery is following suit.
The Hollywood Reporter has it that the newly merged company Warner Bros. Discovery is set to head to SDCC next month. They will be showcasing House of the Dragon, The Sandman, and Harley Quinn. However, DC will not have their usual booth on the convention floor. If you’ve ever been to SDCC then you’ve seen the giant presence they usually have, so their absence will be strange. Accordingly, this means that CW shows like The Flash, Superman & Lois will not have a presence at the show. Given that the network is about to be sold, it makes sense that it would tone things down at the convention, especially after so many of its shows have been cancelled.
But at least House of the Dragon can pick up the slack!
House of the Dragon is coming to SDCC!
Warner Bros. has a lot of movies in production it could potentially show off at SDCC, including DC League of Super-Pets, Black Adam, and Shazam! Fury of the Gods. There’s also The Flash movie, but given all the controversy surrounding star Ezra Miller, I don’t think the studio will be putting much focus on that.
But enough about what isn’t coming to SDCC, let’s talk about House of the Dragon! This is the first time a Game of Thrones franchise show is heading to the convention, and to make it even better, they’re getting the royal Hall H treatment.
This is perfect timing given that the series is set to premiere on August 21; we could get an exclusive sneak peak or even an early premiere!
Along with House of the Dragon, Netflix’s The Sandman will have a special video presentation along with a Q&A with stars and producers. It’s one of the most expensive show that Netflix has made, so we can expect to learn a lot of behind-the-scenes details. Personally, I am just hoping to see Gwendoline Christie as Lucifer! It’s been far too long since she’s had the spotlight.
Riverdale will have its final SDCC panel ahead of its final season and is also getting the Hall H treatment. I have to say that is going to be incredibly exciting and I look forward to attending that panel.
DC Publishing will also have a presence at the show through a variety of panels with Jim Lee presenting a showcase of upcoming DC books. There will also be something for animation fans, including a special screening of the first two episodes of Harley Quinn. That show is absolutely hilarious and I’m anxiously awaiting its return.
I just can’t wait for what’s in store! San Diego Comic-Con goes down July 21-24.
