Epic Games Store users get free Game of Thrones game

As it does every week, Epic Games has given out two free games to those who have created an account on the Epic Games Store, which is free. Per ComicBook.com, this week it’s giving away downloadable copies of Car Mechanic Simulator 2018, the title of which should tell you everything you need to know, and A Game Of Thrones: The Board Game Digital Edition.

Is this the highest-profile Game of Thrones video game the store could have given away? No — that would probably be one of Telltale’s Game of Thrones graphic adventure games — but it’s still fun.

The original Game of Thrones board game was was made by Fantasy Flight Games and is based on George R.R. Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire novels rather than HBO’s TV show. Set after the death of King Robert Baratheon, up to six players online pick a house and battle for the throne. You can also play against AI opponents. “During the game, players spread their influence across Westeros through a combination of strategic planning, masterful diplomacy, and military might,” reads the official logline. “As one of the Great Houses, will you conquer with force, forge alliances, rally your townsfolk, or cunningly coerce your way to the Iron Throne?”

If you have an Epic Games account, you can download A Game Of Thrones: The Board Game Digital Edition anytime between now and Thursday, and it will be yours forever. After Thursday, there will be a new pair of games on offer.

This is a neat offer, although I always thought it was a bit of a shame that Game of Thrones never got a big glossy video game adaptation when it was at its height. Perhaps the upcoming prequel series House of the Dragon can change things.
