During his time in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Thor has been a part of The Avengers, The Guardians of the Galaxy, The Revengers, and The Guardians of the Multiverse. He certainly gets around. His next movie, Thor: Love and Thunder, will see him once again team up with the Guardians. Beyond that, how many more Thor flicks can we expect? According to MCU boss Kevin Feige, there are still “lots” of stories to tell.

Chris Hemsworth’s portrayal of the Norse God is among the most iconic in the MCU, right up there with Robert Downey Jr.’s Iron Man and Chris Evans’ Captain America. In fact, with the release of Love and Thunder, he’s the only character in the entire franchise to get four solo movies.

With each passing Thor project, fans wonder if it’ll be Hemsworth’s last. But he keeps coming back. Speaking to Extra, the actor revealed that he is happy to “keep coming back for more and more until someone kicks me off the stage.”

Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige is also happy to keep the movies coming. “There are these things called comic books that have a lot of stories in them – and that’s where all of our stories come from,” he told Total Film. “And the question is, ‘Have you told all the great Thor stories from the comics in movies?’ The answer is no. There are lots of them.”

"I’ve always said our interest in making additional stories is somewhat about continuing the character, [but] it’s almost entirely about continuing the experience with the actor. I think of all of our cast, not as their individual characters, but as the Marvel players who within that character can grow and evolve and change."

There’s no lack of source material, that’s for sure. Comic books featuring Thor date way back to 962. “And if we look at the comics as our guide, there are plenty of other incarnations of Thor that we have yet to see,” Feige said.

Chris Hemsworth discusses Thor’s nude scene

But we could be getting ahead of ourselves. Thor: Love and Thunder premieres in theaters on July 8, and it already has people talking. A lot of that talk is about Hemsworth’s already-infamous nude scene, which we glimpsed in the trailer: Thor is brought before Zeus (Russell Crowe), who is convinced Thor is wearing a disguise. Zeus is a little too enthusiastic in peeling it back, hence nudity.

“[I]t was kind of 10, 11 years in the making, that shot,” Hemsworth told press, per IndieWire. “In each film we’ve taken off another item of clothing, and now we just kind of took it all off.”

Hemsworth made sure to let everyone know that the scene was the idea of director Taika Waititi. “[I]t was all his doing.”

The MCU is coming to SDCC 2022!

The MCU was recently confirmed to have a panel at the upcoming San Diego Comic-Con for the first time in three years. Expect lots of exciting announcements as Feige and co lay out plans for upcoming projects.

“It’s the first time since we were on stage there three years ago talking about this movie and many others,” Feige said. “Now I think almost everything that we discussed three years ago has been released so we’re excited to go and talk about the future.”

Perhaps after the panel, we’ll have a little more understanding as to how important Thor will be to the MCU going forward.

SDCC 2022 kicks off on Thursday, July 21 and ends on Sunday, July 24.
