After a three-year absence, Stranger Things has come roaring back with its fourth season and become the most talked-about show of the year. It feels like the show has reached a new peak of popularity, with everyone on the edge of their seats to see how season 4 concludes when the final two episodes drop this Friday.
That also means it’s inspired a lot of great fanworks, including this splendid trailer for the show if it were an anime in the 1980s. Watch below:
I definitely am getting Akira vibes from those shots of Eleven tapping into her powers…although that’s basically the only ’80s anime I’m familiar with. Eh, I’m sure it’s enough.
“Running Up That Hill” now makes anything more Stranger Things
The video above is from the YouTube channel LUMINOZ, but they didn’t actually create this trailer. That would be animation studio Humouring the Fates, which posted the original video back in 2019 slightly after Netflix dropped the third season:
LUMINOZ pretty much just added Kate Bush’s “Running Up That Hill” as a backing track, and it is good and well that he did, because Bush’s 1985 hit instantly became the show’s unofficial theme song the moment everyone watched Max escape Vecna in “Dear Billy.” They’re together forever now, Stranger Things and Kate Bush.
The final two episodes of Stranger Things season 4 drop on Netflix on July 1.
