After a 16-year stint as James Bond, Daniel Craig finally put away his Walther PPK with 2021’s No Time To Die. But you know what they say about old soldiers: they never die, they just chill for a few years before the studio recasts the role.

And there has been a lot of talk about who will play James Bond when the next movie rolls around. Game of Thrones veteran Richard Madden? Professional witcher Henry Cavill? The most-British-man-in-Baltimore Idris Elba? Highlander Sam Heughan? All have been discussed, but apparently, the Bond people aren’t even close to deciding on anyone yet.

“Nobody’s in the running,” longtime Bond producer Barbara Broccoli told Deadline. “We’re working out where to go with him, we’re talking that through. There isn’t a script and we can’t come up with one until we decide how we’re going to approach the next film because, really, it’s a reinvention of Bond. We’re reinventing who he is and that takes time.”

Work on a new James Bond movie is “at least two years away”

Broccoli said that filming on a new Bond movie is “at least two years away,” so don’t expect an announcement anytime soon. Broccoli has said that she intends to cast a guy in the role, despite some interest among fans in a female James Bond sometime back.

Here at WinterIsComing, we’re naturally rooting for Richard Madden. Robb Stark as James Bond!

If you simply can’t wait for the next film, there are 25 official Bond movies out there to slake your thirst for super-spy hijinks, plus innumerable parodies and tributes.

Y’know, it’s kind of a miracle that there’s no James Bond TV show in development by now? Broccoli and company keep a tight hold on this universe.
