Dune: Part Two gets delayed
By Dan Selcke
Dune was one of the better big budget movies of 2021, a splashy sci-fi epic adapted from a classic book by Frank Herbert that many thought was impossible to translate effectively to screen. But director Denis Villeneuve and his cast of high-profile actors (Timothée Chalamet, Jason Momoa, Zendaya, etc) pulled it off, turning in a deliberately paced adventure that pleased both newbies and diehard Dune fans alike.
And it only adapted the first half of Herbert’s book, so there’s a sequel on the way that will wrap things up…only it’s coming a little later than expected. Originally, Dune: Part Two was scheduled to hit theaters on October 20, 2023. Per Variety, it’s now been pushed back to November 17, 2023. Which isn’t too bad a delay; it probably has more to do with Warner Bros. Discovery shuffling its schedule than any problem on set.
The next Dune movie will keep up the first’s tradition of casting A-list talent and dressing them up in wild sci-fi outfits; Marvel veteran Florence Pugh will play the space princess Irulan, Christopher Walken is her father the emperor, and Elvis star Austin Butler is the vicious Feyd-Rautha Harkonnen.
A new Godzilla vs. Kong movie is coming
Warner Bros. Discovery also announced that there will be a new Godzilla vs. Kong movie coming out on March 15, 2024. The last one, simply titled Godzilla vs. Kong, came out last year.
This will be the latest in a line of related movies that stretches back to 2014’s Godzilla and also includes Kong: Skull Island and Godzilla: King of the Monsters. Technically they’re part of what Warner Bros. Discovery is trying to sell as the “MonsterVerse,” but they can’t make you call it that. You have the power; resist.
