Crawl out through the fallout, baby! The cast of Prime Video’s Fallout show just got a little bigger.

It’s another day on the front lines of the Streaming Wars, and exciting news is afoot. A while back it came out that Amazon Prime Video was creating a show based on the bestselling Fallout video game series by Interplay Entertainment and Bethesda Softworks. The show has Westworld creators Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy attached to develop it, which feels like a perfect fit for the zany world of Fallout.

Set in a post-apocalyptic United States, the Fallout games follow various survivors as they brave the Waste in order to acquire crucial supplies, fight hordes of super mutants, and survive various other horrors. They typically also involve underground Vaults where some human factions survived the apocalypse before emerging years later. Those Vaults usually also contain some sort of horrible experiment.

Kyle MacLachlan is heading to the Waste

Variety reports that Kyle MacLachlan has now joined the cast of the Prime Video Fallout series. The actor and his trademark charm have been in all sorts of productions over the years, but these days he’s perhaps best known for his involvement in series like Twin Peaks and Portlandia. We know literally nothing about who MacLachlan is playing; could he be an inept post-apocalyptic politician, or affiliated with Vault-Tec in some way?

As nervous as I was when it was first announced that Amazon was tackling this series, with every casting announcement my interest increases. Per The A.V. Club, MacLachlan joins Walton Goggins, Ella Purnell, Xelia Mendes-Jones, and Aaron Moten. Goggins in particular is an actor who just seems like he’s perfect for a Fallout show. Whatever Prime Video and the Westworld creators are cooking up for this, it’s certainly intriguing.

For now, Amazon is keeping a tight lip on the development for the Fallout TV show. We’ll know more when we know more!
