Each month, we read over the latest dispatches from the front lines of the Streaming Wars and assess how the likes of Netflix, HBO Max, Disney+ and the rest are doing. Who won the day, who was defeated, and who’s biding their time? We mark it all down on this living graph, which changes every month.
How did the combatants fare in June of 2022? Take a look:
Paramount+
Between Evil, Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars, and Beavis and Butt-Head Do The Universe, Paramount+ had some originals worth talking about this month. Points: +3
Netflix
As always, Netflix had some buzzy titles this month, including Hustle, First Kill, and The Umbrella Academy. It also enjoyed a very long tail on the fourth season of Stranger Things, which returns right at the start of July. But it also fired employees again, signaling all is not right with the streaming giant. Points: +1
Disney+
Disney+ wrapped up Obi-Wan Kenobi, started Ms. Marvel, and debuted a new Baymax series. Not bad at all. Points: + 3
Hulu
In June, Hulu got new seasons of The Orville, Love, Victor and Only Murders in the Building as well as new movies like Fire Island and Good Luck to You, Leo Grande. Everyone’s bringing it this month! Points: +3
HBO Max
Okay, here’s something a little weaker. HBO Max debuted new seasons of Westworld and Tuca & Bertie along with a new version of Father of the Bride and some solid library titles. Not bad, but not amazing, either. Points: + 2
Amazon Prime Video
The big ticket item for Amazon this month is definitely the third season of The Boys, which is worth a lot even if it didn’t much help beyond new library titles. Points: + 2
Apple TV+
Apple TV+ is small but mighty this month. Sure, it didn’t get much, but what it did get was a new season of the excellent sci-fi show For All Mankind, a Maya Rudolph comedy called Loot, and the dark comedy Physical. Small but mighty. Points: + 1
Peacock
Peacock had a couple new notable originals in June, including more of the Ed Helms comedy Rutherford Falls and a reboot of Queer as Folk, but mostly it was library titles. Points: + 1
