The final two episodes of Netflix’s paranormal horror show are some of the most ambitious episodes of television ever produced by the streaming platform, with the season finale clocking in at a mighty two-and-a-half hours. It also resolves some of the biggest cliffhangers and longest-standing mysteries of the show’s fourth season, including the fates of all our favorite characters and the villainous motives of Vecna.
But more important than any of that, Volume 2 also finally delivers on a scene promised in the very first trailer for the season, when Eddie Munson (Joseph Quinn) shreds on his guitar in the Upside Down. As part of the Hawkins gang’s elaborate plan to kill Vecna in the Stranger Things season 4 finale, Eddie cranks up the volume and plays guitar on top of his uncle’s trailer to lure the Demobats away from the Creel House. The song that Eddie plays in the Upside Down in Stranger Things is the iconic metal hit “Master of Puppets” by Metallica, off their 1986 Master of Puppets album.
The song is one of the California thrash metal band’s biggest hits; it helped make them one of the most influential bands of all time. “Master of Puppets” was released on March 3, which means it would have been out for only a couple of months by the time Stranger Things 4 happens. Eddie’s got his thumb on the pulse of the metal scene!
