HBO is about to debut House of the Dragon, its follow-up to Game of Thrones. Set some 200 years before the original series, this show will tell the story of the Dance of the Dragons, a brutal civil war fought between rival factions of the Tagaryen dynasty over the empty Iron Throne. When it starts, the Targaryens are at the height of their power. By the end…well, this is one dance they probably should have sat out.
It’s a juicy story. When do we get to see it? Soon. But unfortunately not now. House of the Dragon is not coming out this month, July 2022.
But it is coming pretty shortly after that.
HBO’s Game of Thrones prequel series isn’t coming out in July 2022
The series premiere of House of the Dragon will air on HBO and HBO Max on August 21, 2022. There are 10 episodes in the first season, so that’ll keep us busy for a minute.
Also interesting is that House of the Dragon will be airing at the same time as The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, which will premiere on Amazon Prime Video on September 2, 2022. Yes, these series are completely different shows…but they’re both expensive high fantasy stories and it’s gonna be hard not to compare them to one another.
Whatever happens, it’s gonna be fun. See you next month.
