The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power isn’t coming out in July 2022
By WiC Staff
Amazon is spending a dragon’s horde’s worth of money to make The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power. It could be the biggest show of the summer. It could be the biggest show of the year. It could be the biggest show period. A billion dollars has to count for something, right?
Amazon has been working on this one for a while, and it’s not quite ready to debut yet. The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power will not be coming out in July 2022.
But we don’t have to wait much longer to watch it…
Amazon’s Lord of the Rings prequel series does not come out in July 2022
The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power will premiere on Amazon Prime Video on September 2. Given how Amazon likes to release its series, we expect it to release multiple episodes — probably three — on the first day, and then release the episodes one per week after that.
The Rings of Power is set during the Second Age of Middle-earth, thousands of years before Frodo or Aragorn or most of those characters were even born. (Not all; immortal characters like Elrond and Galadriel will still be around, but they’ll be a lot younger.) There’s still a lot we don’t know about the series, but Amazon has a big canvas to work with.
Another fun note is that The Lord of the Rings will be in on at the same time that HBO is airing House of the Dragon, another big high fantasy series. It’s gonna be interesting to watch.
