Doctor Who fans are eagerly awaiting Jodie Whittaker’s final episode, which is set to air later this year. It’s going to be a bittersweet moment as Whittaker’s run as the Doctor has been nothing short of iconic. She was the first official female Doctor to ever play the role and featured in some magnificent stories, including the Rosa Parks episode.

Sadly, her tenure as the Doctor is coming to an end, but we’ve still got one more epic episode left. During an appearance on BBC One’s The One Show, future/former showrunner Russell T. Davies teased that Whittaker’s final outing will have “lots of surprises.” Of course, that’s all he was willing to reveal, but something is better than nothing.

He was also very quiet about what his first season back after nearly a decade will look like. Davies is not ready to dish out the details just yet because he wants Whittaker’s series farewell to get all the attention it deserves. He is not looking to “upstage” her final outing before Ncuti Gatwa takes over for Whittaker as the Doctor.

Jodie Whittaker’s final Doctor Who episode is “epic”

Davies shared that he recently watched Whittaker’s final episode and described it as a “90-minute epic, it’s fantastic, [it] is gorgeous. Lots of surprises.” I don’t know what is in store for us, but I know that this episode will do everything it can to celebrate Whittaker’s exit.

And just as she steps away, Davies will take over the reins of the show, and we all know what that means: epic, amazing, fantastical episodes! Plus, his first episode back is the 60th anniversary Doctor Who special which will have David Tennant and Catherine Tate reprising their roles as the Tenth Doctor and Donna Noble. They’ve been spotted filming around England, and just the sight of them in costume brings a huge smile to my face.

The future is bright for Doctor Who, and I look forward to witnessing the new era with Davies at the helm once again!
