Sometimes a movie sells you with its premise alone. Try Day Shift, for example: a pool cleaner played by Jamie Foxx moonlights as a vampire hunter in Los Angeles, killing gentrified blood-suckers and then selling their teeth for money. The vampire hunting union has kicked him out for being too reckless, which limits his earning potential, but with the recommendation of fellow vampire hunter Big John (Snoop Dogg), he’s given one more chance.

That sounds pretty stupid in all the best ways. Watch the trailer below:

You’ll note that the trailer advertises the movie as coming from “the guys who taught John Wick how to kick ass.” That’s because the Day Shift is directed by J.J. Perry, who served as a stunt coordinator on the John Wick movies, along with a lot of other work over the course of his long career. Day Shift will be his first feature as a director, and you at least know the action will be up to snuff.

Day Shift premiere date on Netflix

Speaking to Vanity Fair, Perry — somewhat bizarrely — insists that Snoop Dogg isn’t in this movie: Calvin Broadus — Snoop Dogg’s birth name — is.  “I don’t want Snoop to be Big John. I’m hiring Calvin Broadus to play Big John.” You might want to tell that to the people who put together the trailer.

Day Shift premieres on Netflix on August 12.
