The nominations for the 74th Primetime Emmy Awards are here. Let’s run down some of the big winners:

  • Succession was the big winner with 25 nominations.
  • Ted Lasso and The White Lotus trailed it with 20 nominations apiece.
  • HacksBarryEuphoriaSeverance, Stranger Things and Only Murders in the Building all got over a dozen nominations each.
  • According to The Hollywood Reporter, HBO had the most nominations with 108, edging out its nearest competitor Netflix, which snagged 105. If you combine nominations for HBO and HBO Max, they’re comfortably in the lead with 140 nominations.

Stranger Things snubbed at the 2022 Emmys?

Stranger Things is most definitely the big show of the moment. The first seven episodes were eligible for recognition at the Emmys, and with 13 nominations (including one for Outstanding Drama Series), they didn’t make out too badly.

That said, the nominations are mostly in technical areas like production design, editing, and makeup. While all of that is very important, fans were hoping that some of the actors would clinch nominations — I’m thinking in particular here of Sadie Sink, who stole the scene in the emotional episode “Dear Billy” — but nothing doing. None of the cast made the cut.
