The Handmaid’s Tale season 5 trailer has dropped, and boy, is it epic. This show has had some wild and crazy moments, but I have a feeling the upcoming fifth season just might top them all. The last season ended with a shocking death as June (Elisabeth Moss) and her fellow (former) Handmaids beat Commander Fred Waterford (Joseph Fiennes) to death.

Normally I’m not one to celebrate the death of a character unnecessarily, but watching Waterford’s death was satisfying. The guy tortured, beat, raped, and did everything under the sun to the “lower class” women of Gilead and he had this coming. If anyone deserved it, it was Commander Waterford.

Along with the death of Commander Waterford, The Handmaid’s Tale season 4 finally showed June escaping to Canada and reuniting with her husband Luke (O.T. Fagbenle). She tried to restart her life, but it wasn’t easy with Serena Joy (Yvonne Strahovski) and Waterford hovering around while they were on trial. But that point is moot given how the fourth season ended, isn’t it?

Heading into season 5, there is a lot going on, and it looks like the series is teasing a showdown between Serena Joy and June…and we are so here for it!

The fifth season will pick up right after Fred’s execution while Serena Joy is picking up the pieces of her life in his absence. It looks like she will be returning to the United States, but is plotting revenge against June for murdering her husband. She doesn’t exactly have a leg to stand on, but I get it, it was her husband…even though he was absolutely horrible.

Meanwhile, June is back in Canada trying to locate her daughter Hannah, who is still stuck in Gilead. It’s not clear from the trailer where the season is going but I can only imagine that June is going to fight like hell to save Hannah, whatever Serena Joy has planned for her.

All I really want out of The Handmaid’s Tale season 5 is a fight between Serena Joy and June that ends with June’s triumph once and for all. I am willing to watch June return to Gilead to make this happen, and that is saying something; June escaping Gilead and making it to Canada was a huge leap forward for the series, so her returning is a big deal.

But if it means taking down Serena Joy and getting Hannah back, I’m all in! The Handmaid’s Tale season 5 premieres on Hulu on September 14.
