When is the Lord of the Rings TV show release date?
By WiC Staff
Amazon is making a new TV show set in Middle-earth, the world J.R.R. Tolkien explored in books like The Hobbit, The Lord of the Rings and The Silmarillion. But the show won’t cover the events from those books…generally speaking. While The Silmarillion is primarily concerned with the First Age of Middle-earth and both The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings are set during the Third, The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power will take place during the Second Age.
That means this new show will take place thousands of years before characters like Bilbo and Frodo were born. It’s a bold move on Amazon’s part (so is spending the dragon’s horde of money they’re investing in this series). We’ll be able to see the results soon: The Rings of Power premieres on Friday, September 2, 2022.
We don’t know if Amazon is going to drop multiple episodes on that date, but if they stick to the pattern they’ve established, I wouldn’t surprised if we get the first three episodes all at once, and then the remaining ones will come out once per week.
Lord of the Rings TV show release date
There are a total of eight episodes in the first season of The Rings of Power. Amazon is already getting rolling on a second season, and if all goes according to plan, there will be around five in all.
Some people are really looking forward to this show while others are very skeptical. We can all find out whether the money was worth it when the show makes its debut in September.
