Martin Freeman will appear in Marvel’s Secret Invasion
By Ariba Bhuvad
Marvel has a lotta movies and TV shows coming up, among them Secret Invasion. We already know Samuel L. Jackson (Nick Fury) is set to star in the series, and now it sounds like Martin Freeman may be joining the fun. Freeman first appeared in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Everett K. Ross in Captain America: Civil War. He also popped up in Black Panther and made quite an impression.
But if I’m being honest, Martin Freeman’s character hasn’t done much of anything, similar to Stellan Skarsgård’s Dr. Erik Selvig. He shows up occasionally, does something random, and then we don’t see him again for a while. So I can’t help but wonder what exactly his role will be in Secret Invasion.
In the comics (and presumably the upcoming series), Secret Invasion is about a group of Skrulls (the shape-shifting aliens from Captain Marvel) who infiltrate their way into high-level positions on Earth, from superheroes to government officials. It would surprise me if Martin Freeman’s character was a Skrull.
Martin Freeman will reprise his MCU role for Secret Invasion
While speaking with RadioTimes, Freeman said it was “kosher information” that he would be appearing in Marvel’s Secret Invasion. Apparently, Jackson already spoiled the appearance of Freeman and Don Cheadle (James Rhodes), so Freeman was essentially confirming it.
“In order not to embarrass Samuel, I will say…I’m not gonna say he’s got that totally wrong, and he’s thinking of Sam Rockwell,” Freeman said. “So yes, I may very well be [appearing.]”
Along with Freeman, Cheadle, and Jackson, it has been confirmed that Game of Thrones veteran Emilia Clark will also be a part of the series. It’s unclear what her role is, but there is a chance that she could be playing Queen Veranke, the Skrull leader. Oscar winner Olivia Colman is also in the show, but we don’t know her role either.
There are a lot of unknowns about this upcoming series, but I am fairly certain that we are about to learn that all the MCU characters are Skrulls. It’s become a Westworld situation where we assume everyone is a host.
We don’t know much about the series, but with San Diego Comic-Con and Disney’s D23 convention coming up, I’m sure plenty of intel is on its way!
