The Gray Man is the newest hit on Netflix, becoming the number one movie on the streamer in 92 countries. Naturally, Netflix is very pleased. They’re already planning a sequel to the movie — to again be helmed by The Avengers: Endgame directors Joe and Anthony Russo — as well as a spinoff that will be “a little more edgy and experimental,” according to the Russos themselves.

Unfortunately, we don’t know when either of those projects will be along. The Gray Man is a big success for Netflix, but that wasn’t a guarantee. The streamer spent $200 million on this movie, more than it has ever spent on a movie before, and there was a chance it could all blow up in their face.

So they were waiting to see whether The Gray Man would hit with audiences before greenlighting sequels and spinoffs. Now that it’s happening, it’ll take a while to get them into production, much less set a release date.

We don’t know The Gray Man 2 release date

We do know that Ryan Gosling will be back as Six in The Gray Man 2, or whatever they end up calling it. (The Grayer Man?) He escaped his handlers at the end of the first film, so there’s plenty of directions for the story to go in.

There’s also a lot of source material. The Gray Man is based on the novel of the same name Mark Greaney, who has since published nearly a dozen books in the spy series. All the Russos have to do is point to one and bam: new movie.

But that’s all in the future. For now, you can watch the original Gray Man on Netflix.
