Say one thing for Batman, you just can’t keep the guy down. Deadline reports that Ben Affleck will be donning the cape and cowl once more in the upcoming sequel to 2018’s AquamanAquaman and the Lost Kingdom will likely see Affleck reunited with his Justice League co-star Jason Momoa, who plays the titular water-dwelling hero.

Affleck first played the caped crusader in 2016’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, and has since gone on to become a mainstay in the D.C. Extended Universe. He’s appeared as Bruce Wayne/Batman in Suicide SquadJustice League, and the 2021 Zack Snyder’s Justice League remaster, and will also be reprising the role in 2023’s The Flash. Add Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom into the mix, and it doesn’t become much of a stretch to say that Affleck’s Batman is one of the main bits of connective tissue tying all of the DCEU’s disparate films together;

Jason Momoa reveals on Instagram that Ben Affleck could be returning Batman

The news about Affleck appearing in Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom came out thanks to an Instagram post from the film’s star Jason Momoa. Momoa shared a picture of the two hanging out on set. “REUNITED bruce and arthur. love u and miss u Ben,” Momoa wrote. “WB studio tours just explored the backlot alright. busted on set all great things coming AQUAMAN 2 all my aloha j”

It’s been previously reported that The Flash will be Affleck’s last time playing Batman, but since Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom comes out first it won’t upset those plans at all. However all that being said…is it just me, or is this only kind of confirming that he could be back? Could the two actors also have just bumped into each other on set that day?

There was also an Instagram story that Momoa posted in the mix, which showed a WB studio tour bus driving by the set of Aquaman while the actor laughed and proclaimed that “it’s not a f***ing secret anymore, is it?” We don’t see what in particular he’s referring to; it could be Affleck, it could be any number of other things.

We’ll see what happens whenever some kind of initial announcement hits. Until then, no further details are known about the scale of Affleck’s involvement in the Aquaman sequel. We’ll be on the lookout for details as the story develops.

Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom is being directed by James Wan, and stars Jason Momoa as the Arthur Curry aka Aquaman, alongside Amber Heard, Patrick Wilson, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Dolph Lundgren, Nicole Kidman, Randall Park and more. The film is currently slated for release on March 17, 2023.
