Bella Ramsey raves about working with Pedro Pascal on The Last of Us
By Dan Selcke
The Last of Us may have had the longest shoot in TV history. Filming on HBO’s upcoming zombie drama only recently wrapped up after over a year of work, so expectations are high.
At least there can be no doubt that HBO nailed the casting. The Last of Us is based on the video game of the same name by Naughty Dog, a game that mostly revolves around a man named Joel escorting a virus-resistant girl named Ellie across the ruins of the United States, where the surviving humans can be as dangerous as the zombies. To play Ellie, HBO has tapped Bella Ramsey, who you may remember as the fierce Lyanna Mormont from Game of Thrones. She’ll be joined by fellow Game of Thrones alum Pedro Pascal (Oberyn Martell) as Joel.
“[W]orking with Pedro was so fun,” Ramsey told ScreenRant. “He’s hilarious. He’s probably one of the funniest people I’ve ever met. He’s also incredibly generous. That’s the word that comes to mind when I think of Pedro. He’s so generous with his words, with his time, and with his actions. He’s just a super cool person to be around, and he definitely made the set a fun place to be. We had a lot of great conversations.”

And it’s a good thing that Pascal was such great company, because it sounds like the shoot itself was difficult. “It was the longest show I’ve ever been on,” Ramsey said. “It was 11 months shooting for me, and the rest of the team were there for over a year, I think. I feel like when you’re with a group of people for that long, the connections that you formulate and the friendships are so solid and special. It was really hard to say goodbye to everybody at the end. It was such a good experience.”
Of course, The Last of Us could always come back for season 2 — they made a second game — but first thing’s first: The Last of Us is expected to premiere on HBO and HBO Max in early 2023.
