It’s confirmed: Blood of My Blood, an Outlander prequel series about Jamie Fraser’s parents, is moving forward at Starz.

There have been rumblings for a while now that Starz was developing a prequel to Outlander, its popular adaptation of Diana Gabaldon’s time-traveling romance books. Now, Deadline has made it official: Blood of My Blood, a prequel show that will explore the romance between Jamie Fraser’s parents Ellen MacKenzie and Brian Fraser, has opened up a writer’s room.

Outlander is a riveting show that from season to season has captured the hearts of its fans around the world,” said Starz executive Kathryn Busby. “We are excited to peel back the layers of this vibrant world to bring our audience the origin of where it all began.”

The creative team from the original series will carry over to this new one. Matthew B. Roberts, who serves as showrunner on the original show, will also be showrunner on Blood of My Blood. Ronald D. Moore, who developed the first series, will serve as an executive producer alongside Gabaldon. Gabaldon, by the way, is writing a book about just this topic, so I’m sure she’ll have plenty of ideas.

We don’t know when Blood of My Blood will premiere. However, it’ll definitely be after Outlander season 7, which is in production as we speak. That one should be along sometime late this year or early next.
