Where is House Martell during House of the Dragon?

At the time House of the Dragon begins, Dorne still isn’t technically part of the Seven Kingdoms. Led by Prince Qoren Martell, the Dornish fight in support the Triarchy in the war over the Stepstones. King Viserys I Targaryen considers trying to fold Dorne into his realm by marrying his daughter Rhaenerya to Qoren. When House Targaryen is split at the outset of the Dance of the Dragons, Qoren is courted by both the Blacks and the Greens.

Remembering the dragon-borne destruction wrought across Dorne when Aegon the Conqueror sought to force House Martell to bend the knee, Qoren chooses to remain neutral, saying, “Dorne has danced with dragons before. I’d sooner sleep with scorpions.” Remaining unbowed, unbent, unbroken and non-committed, House Martell intends to sit this one out, so don’t expect to see much of them during the show.

Where is House Baratheon during House of the Dragon?

House Baratheon is tight with House Targaryen due to Orlys Baratheon’s loyal support and friendship to King Aegon I Targaryen during the Conquest., so it’s no surprise that the Baratheons are on the razor’s edge when the civil war erupts. Lord Borros Baratheon, spurning his late father Lord Boremond’s affinity for the Blacks, chooses to side with Aegon II Targaryen and the Greens.

Wary of dragons, Borros stays in Storm’s End for the early part of the war, but he does eventually march his forces to join the fighting. So the Baratheons are involved in this story — there’s an early scene at Storm’s End that will surely get people to sit up — they’re mostly on the periphery.

Where is House Lannister during House of the Dragon?

During the Dance of the Dragons, House Lannister, the most powerful family in the Westerlands, backs Queen Alicent and becomes one of the core members of the Greens faction, along with the Hightowers. As Hand of King Viserys I Targaryen, Ser Otto Hightower (father of Queen Alicent and grandfather of Aegon II) has filled the small council with members sympathetic to the Greens, including making Tyland Lannister the Master of Ships.

When Viserys I dies, Tyland Lannister seizes the plentiful royal treasury at King’s Landing. His twin brother, Lord Jason Lannister, commits their army to the cause of the Greens. Unlike many of the other main Great Houses, we’ll a fair amount of the Lannisters in House of the Dragon.
