Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is set to be an emotional ending to a franchise that has won over so many of our hearts. From the minute Peter Quill/Star-Lord (Chris Pratt) and his motley crew of rebellious crewmates stepped onto the screen, it’s been absolutely amazing.

Sadly, this saga is coming to a close with the next film. While at San Diego Comic-Con, I was able to watch a trailer and sneak peek at what the next movie has to offer. And I’m telling you guys, it is going to be epic. And by epic, I also mean sad, bittersweet, and devastating.

During the panel, director James Gunn and the cast were very emotional about things coming to an end. You could hear a collective sigh and sniffling all around the room because everyone was in their feelings about the end.

While only the SDCC attendees in Hall H got a chance to watch the trailer, Gunn is sharing what little he can about Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. And all he can really tell us is to get ready for an emotional rollercoaster.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is going to be very emotional

Speaking with GameSpot, Gunn shared that the final installment will be “an incredibly emotional story.”

"Much more mature than the other Guardian stories in a way because, you know, we started making these movies that were 10, 11 years old when they saw the first one, and now they’re 20, 21 years old. The movie has grown up with them."

The official synopsis released by Marvel teases a difficult road ahead for Peter Quill, who is still trying to figure out life without his version of Gamora (Zoe Saldana). “Peter Quill, still reeling from the loss of Gamora, must rally his team around him to defend the universe along with protecting one of their own. A mission that, if not completed successfully, could quite possibly lead to the end of the Guardians as we know them,” it reads.

Given what I saw in the trailer, Quill has a very rocky road ahead, and there will be plenty of surprises along the way. Get ready, folks, it’s going to be a tough one!

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 releases in theaters on May 5, 2023.
