Fans of David Tennant and Doctor Who will be ecstatic to learn that he has filmed with “many other people” for the show’s upcoming 60th anniversary special, which he revealed at Fan Expo Boston (where I just happened to be). To start, we’ve heard that he’ll be back together with Catherine Tate, who played companion Donna Noble. But who knows what else they’ll out for this major event?

Whovians will recall that the 50th anniversary special, “The Day of the Doctor,” featured multiple Doctors, including those played by David Tennant, Matt Smith, and Peter Capaldi. The 60th anniversary special will usher in a new era as Jodie Whittaker transitions out of the role and hands it over to Sex Education’s Ncuti Gatwa. So a lot is going on and we can’t wait for it all to come together.

So will Tennant’s costars in the special be new faces or old? I’m going to guess there will be a mix of both. As far as old faces go, I’m hoping we get to see the returns of fan-favorite characters like Amy and Rory Pond (Karen Gillan and Arthur Darvill).

There have been rumors of Amy and Rory being a part of the special ever since Gillan was asked about her future projects on Instagram. Her response? “Something unexpected. And it’s not a movie.”

Hmmm, okay, that’s cryptic, isn’t it?

She also posted a picture of her and Darvill with the caption, “Went to London and saw Mr. Pond.”

I’m not saying this is related, but it could be, right? She’s done with Guardians of the Galaxy, so she has some time to go back to her Doctor Who roots. I’m going to be optimistic and say heck yes, the Ponds will return.

And if they don’t, well, it was an exciting theory.
