The series premiere of She-Hulk: Attorney at Law is here, and it marks the start of what may become one of Marvel’s funniest series yet. “A Normal Amount of Rage” contained quite a few funny moments as Jennifer Walters (Tatiana Maslany) adjusted to her newfound Hulk powers after a bloody accident with her cousin Bruce (Mark Ruffalo). Fans who stuck around through the credits, however, got to see what might be the funniest bit of all, which came at the expense of Chris Evans’ Captain America.

In an an end-credits stinger, Jennifer and Bruce debate Steve Rogers’ virtue over drinks. Despite Jen’s insistence that Steve must never have had sex, Bruce eventually breaks down and spills the beans: “Steve Rogers is not a virgin,” Bruce reveals. “He lost his virginity to a girl in 1943 on the USO tour.”

Apparently, Chris Evans was not in on this joke, and had to find out along with viewers when the show premiered. He tweeted out a response after She-Hulk’s premiere went live, containing only three laughing emojis followed by one with its mouth zipped shut. Ruffalo then chimed in with a response: “Sorry bro. It was under extreme duress.”

Captain America’s virginity was planned to be a running joke on She-Hulk

Ruffalo told Entertainment Weekly about how he felt after reading this joke in the script. “I laughed my a– off,” Ruffalo said. “I’m like, ‘Does someone need to talk to Captain America about this?’ I haven’t. I was afraid he was going to have it cut. Too late now, buddy. The cat’s out of the bag.”

She-Hulk head writer Jessica Gao said that the creative team “didn’t set out thinking that we were going to be able to answer” how Steve Rogers lost his V card. It’s not clear whether they got some kind of permission from the higher powers at Marvel, but She-Hulk was ultimately able to provide an answer to this long-standing fan question.

It turns out, however, that the topic of Steve Rogers’ love life was something that was originally planned to be a much longer-running gag. “It used to just be a running joke, that it’s going to be a lifelong obsession for Jen, that this is the one thing that keeps her awake at night,” Gao said. “It actually used to be in the show a lot more, where in every episode there would be some little reminder, like you’d see that her search history was this, and she was always in asides talking to other characters where everybody’s reaction was like, ‘She’s talking about this again.'”

Whether we’ll hear more about this very important topic, who can say? She-Hulk: Attorney at Law premieres new episode every Thursday on Disney+.
