Emilia Clarke’s role in Secret Invasion revealed?
By Dan Selcke
We’ve known for a while that Game of Thrones veteran Emilia Clarke, Daenerys Targaryen herself, would be joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe in Secret Invasion, one of the many Marvel TV series heading to Disney+. Secret Invasion will star Samuel L. Jackson as lead character Nick Fury, and involve an attempt by the shape-shifting Skrull aliens to infiltrate the highest circles of power on Earth.
There have been rumors about who Clarke may play. One of the most popular is that she’ll be Abigail Brand, the green-haired leader of S.W.O.R.D., an organization that deals with extraterrestrial threats. But behind-the-scenes looks don’t seem to back this up. So if not Abigail, who?
Daniel Richtman, who’s known for breaking Hollywood scoops over on his Patreon, has a promising new rumor: according to his sources, Clarke is playing a Skrull alien. Specifically, she’s playing G’iah, who initially helps invade planets along with the rest of the Skrulls but who eventually turns her coat and works with the other side after becoming disillusioned by the brutal methods her people use to subjugate other worlds.
Emilia Clarke may play a Skrull alien in Secret Invasion
That sounds like a pretty juicy character, so far as Marvel characters go; I can see Clarke sinking her teeth into that.
Secret Invasion also starts Samuel L. Jackson (Nick Fury), Ben Mendelsohn (Talos), Cobie Smulders (Maria Hill), Don Cheadle (Colonel James Rhodes), Martin Freeman (Everett Ross), and Dermot Mulroney (U.S. President Ritson). And since the show will reportedly be a “crossover event” for Marvel, you can bet there will be plenty more people showing up, as well.
There’s no firm release date for Secret Invasion yet, but it’s due out in the spring of 2023.
