The CW has been going through major changes as the network gets handed off to its owner, Nexstar Media Group. While we’re used to the overwrought drama that the network has given us with its superhero and teen shows, it looks like Nexstar has different plans.

According to Deadline, Nexstar announced previously that the average age of a CW viewer is around 58 years old. So based on that logic, the CW has been catering to the wrong demographic this entire time. With that in mind, Nexstar wants to pivot.

Does this mean we’ll say goodbye to the angsty teen dramas? Not necessarily. However, there will not be as many of the genre shows/teen soap operas as there have been in the past. The network will expand its horizons by “adding procedurals and other older-skewing dramas as well as half-hour comedies including multi-camera sitcoms.”

This is going to be interesting…

The CW is getting a major makeover under Nexstar

Deadline’s sources also say that Nexstar wants the people at The CW to “bring us what you would’ve brought to the CW before but also bring us what you wouldn’t have brought to us in the past.” Essentially, they’re trying to go as big as they can and rope in as many new viewers as possible, regardless of age.

The era of Riverdale-type dramas and superhero thrills is probably coming to an end. As someone who has been watching The CW shows for a long time, I’m definitely feeling the emotions of letting all these shows go. They’ve always been fun to watch. But alas, it may be time to say goodbye.

Next. Thank Eru, The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power is actually good. dark
