If you were among the many fans who wished Thor: Love and Thunder made more use of the Guardians of the Galaxy, then today is a happy day for you. The DVD and Blu-Ray release date for the fourth Thor movie is approaching, and to get us hyped Marvel is releasing deleted or extended scenes from the film. We’ve already gotten a look at one that featured the Greek god Dionysus. Now, we’re getting another scene, this time with Thor and the Guardians of the Galaxy.
Unlike the Dionysus scene, this one is an extended version of a scene that did make the final cut in the movie. Titled “Wasting Time,” it expands on the bit where Thor (Chris Hemsworth) is meditating on the planet Indigarr while Starlord (Chris Pratt) and Mantis (Pom Klementieff) try to convince him to join the battle taking place below his mountaintop. You can watch the scene exclusively over at The A.V. Club.
Extended Thor 4 scene makes slightly more use of the Guardians of the Galaxy
Unlike the scene with Dionysus, there’s not too much new to see here, though it is still fun to watch if you missed the Guardians. Things start out pretty much the same, with Star Lord beseeching Thor to quit his meditating and go do his superhero thing. Mantis, who first mimics Thor’s Om-style chant, steps things up by trying to use her powers to persuade him to come down from his hill.
Ultimately, Star Lord tricks Thor into joining the fracas by appealing to his vanity. “This way they’ll make a statue of me when I save the planet,” he scoffs. “You stay there and don’t be a hero!” Hearing this, Thor uproots his Stormbreaker hammer, invites Star Lord and Mantis to ride on it with him, and then tries to get it to take off while braying like a horse.
If you enjoyed Thor: Love and Thunder, this is more of the same. Thor: Love and Thunder releases digitally and on Disney+ on September 8. The Blu-Ray and DVD release is set for September 27. The Guardians of the Galaxy will next appear in their own holiday special on Disney+ this winter.
