Fans espied a CGI goof in the latest episode of House of the Dragon. Since when were King Viserys’ fingers so green? Any coffee cups in the vicinity?

In the latest episode of House of the Dragon, some fans noticed a mistake that was accidentally left in the final version. During a scene in the small council room, you can notice green tape wrapped around the fingers of Paddy Considine, who plays King Viserys. In the show, King Viserys has been dealing with cuts on his fingers that festered and lead to the maesters amputating them. So Considine’s fingers are supposed to be CGI’d out, but weren’t in this scene. HBO said that the scene will be altered to address this, per Variety.

Fans have been buzzing about this because it reminds them of a mistake from the final seaosn of Game of Thrones season 8, where someone left a coffee cup on a table in the scene where Daenerys and other characters are celebrating the defeat of the Night King at Winterfell.

The goof received a ton of attention online. Writing at the time, Hauke Richter, who worked as an art director on several seasons of Game of Thrones, called the coffee cup incident “so blown out of proportion.”

Look, there is a lot of work that goes into making these shows and there are a lot of things happening on set, so mistakes happen. I tend to agree with Richter’s comments that goofs like this are blown out of proportion, because if you really wanted to, you could find stuff like this in almost every movie or TV show. I think because the writing quality on Game of Thrones suffered toward the end, some fans were looking for any excuse to bash the series. Hopefully people aren’t doing the same with House of the Dragon because this is a harmless mistake that doesn’t warrant anything more then a quick fix in the editing room.
