After the cancellation of shows like Batwoman and Legends of Tomorrow, Superman & Lois is one of the few DC superhero shows hanging on at The CW. It was the wrong time for a cast shake-up, so I can’t imagine producers were thrilled when actor Jordan Elsass, who plays Clark Kent’s son Jonathan, decided to leave the show.
Reportedly, Elsass leaving had nothing to do with problems on set; it was his own personal decision. But that still left the show in a lurch, particularly because they were filming season 3 when it happened. They had to recast Jonathan, and fast.
And now they have. Actor Michael Bishop confirmed on his Instagram that he will be playing Jonathan Kent come season 3, writing: michael (age 4): ‘i wanna be superman when I grow up.'” Close enough.
Same Superman & Lois, new Jonathan Kent
Alex Garfin will return as Jonathan’s twin brother Jordan Kent. I imagine they’ll just play it like nothing’s different, although considering that DC superheroes get involved in all kinds of multiversal shenanigans they could have an in-universe explanation if they wanted to. But they probably won’t.
The third season of Superman & Lois is due out in March of 2023.
