Last week marked the release of Thor: Love and Thunder on Disney+. Yet while you can now enjoy the movie from the comfort of your couch, it may not be exactly the same as it appeared in theaters.

Per GamesRadar+, it appears that Marvel Studios has altered some of the digital effects in Love and Thunder for its Disney+ release. One eagle-eyed user over on Twitter posted a side-by-side comparison of the scene where Heimdall’s son Axl (Kieron L. Dyer) projects himself into another room to speak to Thor (Chris Hemsworth) and company, appearing as a disembodied floating head. You can see the comparison here.

Thor: Love and Thunder’s CGI came under criticism upon the movie’s release; even director Taika Waititi and star Tessa Thompson openly called it into question during a press video released after the film. Add it to the ongoing stories about poor working conditions for digital effects houses working for Marvel, and it doesn’t paint a great picture.

Another day, another deleted scene from Thor 4

With Thor: Love and Thunder coming out digitally and then on Blu-ray/DVD in late September, Marvel has been unveiling deleted scenes left and right. Already we’ve seen one that featured the Greek god Dionysus, as well as an extended scene with the Guardians of the Galaxy. Now we’re getting a brand new scene with Russell Crowe’s Zeus.

Of all the new footage revealed from Thor: Love and Thunder so far, this scene is easily the most interesting. As opposed to the petty version of Zeus we saw in the film, whose antics caused Thor to take the god’s trademark thunderbolt by force, here we see Zeus imparting wisdom about the nature of power to our favorite Norse hero before he willingly gifts him with the thunderbolt. Meanwhile, the hammer Mjolnir knocks on Jane Foster’s (Natalie Portman) window to beseech her to once more become the Mighty Thor.

I can’t lie, I think I liked this scene more than any of Zeus’ actual appearances in the final cut of the film. It’s cool to see it released now, but also difficult to imagine how it would have fit into the movie given the much crasser version of the Greek god we saw there. I guess there’s a reason it got left on the cutting room floor.

Thor: Love and Thunder is streaming now on Disney+. It releases on Blu-Ray and DVD on September 27.

Next. The Sandman crushed it in the ratings—Netflix, please renew this show. dark
