A guide to all the new and familiar characters on The Rings of Power
Disa
Actor: Sophia Nomvete
The dwarf princess and wife to Prince Durin IV has quickly become one of the most lovable characters in The Rings of Power so far. Disa is a caring mother and wife, proud of her family and her people under the mountain in the mines of Moria.
Disa is also uniquely powerful. She is a stone singer, meaning she can communicate with stone using her voice, after a fashion. Speaking with Entertainment Weekly, actor Sophia Nomvete called her “a formidable ball of fun.”
The inclusion of Disa in The Rings of Power is historic one; she is the first female dwarf in a screen adaptation of Tolkien’s work. And yes, as Gimli said, many dwarf women do have facial hair, including Disa, although her sideburns aren’t as noticeable next to her husband’s thick, long braided beard.
Halbrand
Actor: Charlie Vickers
Halbrand is one of the more mysterious characters in The Rings of Power. We first encounter him as a castaway in the Sundering Seas in the second episode. That’s when he meets Galadriel, who’s just jumped ship to avoid going home to the Undying Lands.
“He’s coming from this place in his past where he’s trying to let go of his past and move on. But in meeting her, she starts to illuminate some things in his mind and things about his past and his destiny that he maybe hadn’t considered. It makes him look at things in a different way,” actor Charlie Vickers told Entertainment Weekly.
Halbrand is from the Southlands, the same place Bronwyn hails from. Like Galadriel, Halbrand is running from his past and also away from a future he doesn’t want. It’s clear these two will form an interesting dynamic as the series goes on, especially since they’re headed towards Númenor.
Finally, there’s the Stranger, who’s so mysterious he deserves his own article:
