House of the Dragon is huge on HBO and The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power is tearing up Amazon. But Netflix has its high fantasy contender as well: The Witcher, based on Andrzej Sapkowski’s novels about professional monster hunter Geralt of Rivia, played by Henry Cavill on the show.

We don’t yet have a release date for the upcoming third season of The Witcher, which is based on Sapkowski’s book Time of Contempt. But things are moving along! Executive producer Steven Gaub gave fans an update on his Instagram:

“And that’s a picture wrap on Season 3 of @witchernetflix,” Gaub wrote. We’ll be back on the Continent before you know it.

The Witcher season 3 finishes filming, still won’t be out for a while

According to excellent Witcher fansite Redanian Intelligence, Cavill marked the occasion with a note to cast and crew. “What a season this has been,” it reads. “I just wanted to thank you all for your determination and dedication through a tough shoot. Hopefully you can all get some well-deserved rest.”

He signs it, “Sincerely and with respect: Henry Cavill.” Classy.

At this point, there’s basically no chance we’ll see the third season of The Witcher this year. I’d expect spring 2023 at the earliest. There is a chance that we could see The Witcher prequel series Blood Origin before that, but it sounds like that show has had some problems and is in a retooling phase.
