Who is the White Worm on House of the Dragon?
During last night’s new episode of House of the Dragon, Otto Hightower is awoken by his guards and told there is word from the “White Worm”: Rhaenrya and Daemon Targaryen had a scandalous evening out. Otto takes this word to the king, setting off a chain reaction that tears the Targaryen family further apart.
But who is the White Worm? If you were watching closely, you can probably figure it out. Beware SPOILERS below!
Who told Otto Hightower about Daemon and Rhaenyra?
When Rhaenyra left the brothel, the camera lingered on a kid sitting against a wall. Later, we see this same kid give some money to Mysaria, the sex worker who was living with Daemon on Dragonstone. The kid is giving Mysaria the fee he got from Otto from delivering the information to him, meaning he works for Mysaria.
Remember: Mysaria told Daemon that she had gotten out of sex work. It looks like her new trade is information. She is the White Worm, as people who have read George R.R. Martin’s book Fire & Blood already know.
Mysaria teaming up with Otto Hightower could be very bad for Daemon and Rhaenyra
This may seem par for the course, since Varys, Littlefinger and Cersei all collected information like this on the regular on Game of Thrones. But it’s notable that Mysaria is willing to give out damaging information about her former paramour Daemon Targaryen to Otto Hightower, his biggest rival.
Now that Otto has been fired as Hand of the King, he has more reason than ever to ensure that his grandson Aegon ascends to the Iron Throne instead of Rhaenyra. He will likely continue to do whatever it takes to make sure his family members come out on top, including having Mysaria spy on Rhaenyra to build a case against her.
Daemon, too, is someone who makes a lot of mistakes that could come back to bite him. After being treated like a pawn in Daemon’s game with Otto, perhaps Mysaria is getting back at him by helping Otto. And like a good journalist, Otto protected Mysaria when he refused to reveal his source to Viserys. This partnership could end up being the downfall of Daemon’s ambitions to marry Rhaenyra and control the Iron Throne.
If Viserys’ body keeps rotting from the inside out, the matter of succession could boil over into something quite ugly sooner rather than later.
