In the galaxy far, far away, there’s always another story on the way. We’re but a few short days away from the release of Andor, Disney+’s latest foray into episodic Star Wars television. Unlike The Book of Boba Fett or Obi-Wan Kenobi, this new show focuses on a much less iconic character, and is centered more around the struggles of everyday people under the Galactic Empire than the dramatic Easter egg extravaganzas of its predecessors. Andor is a prequel to Rogue One: A Star Wars Story which follows the rise of the titular spy played by Diego Luna, and from the trailers it’s clear that this is a much more grounded take on the universe.

Early impressions are rolling in for Andor, and they’re pretty good!

The first three episodes of Andor are coming to Disney+ on September 21, but many critics have had the chance to see the episodes ahead of time. Now that the embargo has lifted on social media reactions, many are sharing their opinions about the series. And for the most part, it sounds like Andor, the dark horse Star Wars show about a relatively minor character in the overall mythos, is actually pretty great! Here are some of the early impressions from Twitter:

@skytalkerspod – “#Andor is incredible, one of the boldest things Star Wars has ever done. The three episode premiere is absolutely perfect, and the third episode is some of our favorite Star Wars ever. It’s thrilling, expansive, and timely.”

@bigscreenleaks – “#Andor is NOT what I expected. It’s a mix of STAR WARS UNDERWORLD and LORD OF THE FLIES, an odd pairing that works. Diego Luna, Adria Arjona, Fiona Shaw and Stellan Skarsgård give standout performances. It’s action-packed, yet a slow burn and I can’t wait to see how it ends.”

@ThatAldenDiaz – “I’m absolutely blown away by the audacity of #ANDOR . We often have to say “Star Wars has always been political” to counter people who would deny that fact. Well this show is actively angry at the people denying it. Audacious, timely, raw, & exceedingly thoughtful. Powerful work.”

@davechensky – “I’ve seen the first 3 eps of #Andor and I say this with the utmost conviction: this is going to be the show that gets me back into Star Wars. ANDOR introduces new, memorable characters, plus an intriguing arc for Andor. And it actually has something to say! Ep 3 is spectacular.”

@TheGregAlba – “I’m happy to say that #Andor is friggin’ AWESOME! The first live-action #StarWars show to rival The Mandalorian but it’s soooooooo different. Driven by mood, atmosphere, & character – feels more akin to a dark Ridley Scott Sci-Fi joint. LOVED the first few episodes!”

All told, the first impression for Andor are pretty good out of the gate. Considering that the series is being helmed by Rogue One director Tony Gilroy, it’s not too surprising that this show seems to have a more consistent vision that’s a matches tonally with that film.

The full review embargo for Andor lifts next Tuesday, September 20, so keep an eye out for more detailed information about the show then.
