Squid Game is an award-winning phenomenon gearing up for a second season. Apparently, Leonardo DiCaprio is a huge fan of the dystopian thriller and would jump at the opportunity to join the Netflix show.

Speaking to Deadline, creator Hwang Dong-hyuk has alluded to the idea that the mega-star may appear on the show in the future. “Maybe if time allows and if chances allow we should ask him to join the game,” he said. “We have already joked about that.”

Fewer jokes, more action: let’s make this happen!

Leonardo DiCaprio might join Squid Game season 2

At the moment, Hwang Dong-hyuk is in the middle of writing Squid Game season 2. Naturally, the second season will feature the return of Lee Jung-jae, fresh off his Emmy win for playing Seong Gi-hun in season 1. Dong-hyuk said that he is “feeling the pressure” for season 2 to live up to the incredible success of season 1.

As of now, the second season is not set to start filming until next year and is slated for a 2024 release on Netflix. In the interim, the streaming service is busy working on a Squid Game reality series, which will not involve anybody dying. “I think that even though our show does carry quite a heavy message — and I know that there are some concerns of taking that message and creating it into a reality show with a cash prize — however, I feel like when you take things too seriously, that’s really not the best way to go for the entertainment industry,” Hwang Dong-hyuk said at the Emmys, per SyFy Wire. “It doesn’t really set a great precedent.”

So the creator of Squid Game isn’t getting too bent out of shape over the idea of an actual Squid Game reality show, saying that he hopes Netflix carries forth his “vision and intention as much as possible for the show.”

"I would say that reproductions of such efforts are going to bring new meaning to the industry and I hope that this is going to be a great new direction for the industry overall."

The world of Squid Game is expanding, hopefully with Leonardo DiCaprio involved in some way.
