The end is nigh for Jodie Whittaker’s run on Doctor Who, and it looks like it will be an emotional rollercoaster. I still remember waking up that morning pinching myself when she was cast! It’s tough to believe she’s leaving but the future of the series remains brighter than ever with Sex Education’s Ncuti Gatwa taking over for her.

But before we begin the new era of Doctor Who, we must prepare ourselves for Whittaker’s final episode. Sacha Dhawan, who will be returning as the Doctor’s archnemesis the Master, spoke to Doctor Who Magazine about it. Apparently, the episode reduced him to “a blubbering mess.”

We are not ready for Jodie Whittaker’s final Doctor Who episode

Jodie Whittaker’s final Doctor Who episode is called “The Power of the Doctor,” and it sounds like it will be intense. “I wanted it to be epic and moving, and when I watched the episode myself, I thought, ‘I’m so glad we landed that’, because it kind of takes your breath away a bit,” Dhawan said.

Dhawan said that even though the Master and the Doctor are enemies, he and Whittaker have a strong friendship, which makes working with her exciting and fun. This translates onto the screen. “[Our friendship] actually makes the scenes much more electrifying, and a lot more moving than I thought they would be,” he said. “Especially in the centenary special. I watched the episode on my laptop in a dark room the other day, and I was just a blubbering mess.”

Make sure to grab your tissues, folks!

Along with the Master, “The Power of the Doctor” will also feature classic Doctor Who villains the Daleks and the Cybermen. As for whether or not we’ll see Gatwa in next year’s 60th anniversary episode, we don’t yet know. For now, “The Power of the Doctor” premieres in October.
