Though The Witcher season 2 only came out in December of 2021, it feels like the wait has been far longer. The second season of Netflix’s monster-hunting fantasy hit left things on a huge cliffhanger, as the witcher Geralt of Rivia (Henry Cavill) teamed up with his on-again-off-again sorceress lover Yennefer (Anya Charlotra) to save Princess Ciri (Freya Allen) from the clutches of the Deathless Mother.

As the Deathless Mother fled to another plane, we learned that she was a member of the Wild Hunt, a group of spectral riders with their sights set on Ciri. Meanwhile, forces around the Continent made plans to use Ciri or kill her to suit their own ends.

Season 3 is set to adapt one of the most beloved of Andrzej Sapkowski’s Witcher books, The Time of Contempt. And fortunately, Netflix has just revealed the release window for The Witcher season 3. Soon, we’ll all be back on the Continent.

The Witcher season 3 release date

While The Witcher season 3 will not be coming out in October 2022, Netflix has revealed during its annual Tudum event that it will arrive on the streaming platform in the summer of 2023. Mark your calendars now, and keep your silver sword close at hand.

In addition to the announcement about The Witcher season 3, Netflix also announced that the spinoff The Witcher: Blood Origin will be releasing on December 25. Set 1,200 years before the mothership show, Blood Origin tells the story of the Conjunction of the Spheres, when the worlds of monsters, men, and elves collided to create the Continent as we know it. It will also explore the creation of the first witcher. The Witcher: Blood Origin stars Michelle Yeoh, Laurence O’Fuarain, and Éile, with Minnie Driver on board as an offscreen narrator.

The Witcher season 3 will be our summer fantasy craze next year, and Blood Origin is our Christmas present. Thanks, Netflix!
