Jodie Whittaker’s final episode of Doctor Who is “for the Whovians”
By Ariba Bhuvad
Jodie Whittaker’s time on Doctor Who is about to come to an end. She’s had an historic run on the show playing the first female Doctor. But now, after three seasons, Whittaker’s final episode, “The Power of the Doctor,” will feature her final bow.
The 90-minute episode will also be the last produced by showrunner Chris Chibnall before he hands off the baton to Russell T Davies, who was showrunner back when the series first revived itself back in 2005. His episodes are some of my all-time favorites, so I cannot wait for this new chapter, even though I’m sad Whittaker and Chibnall are both leaving.
As we all get ready to say goodbye, Whittaker teased her final episode in an interview with Empire, including what it will mean to the fans.
Jodie Whittaker says farewell to Doctor Who
It looks like Whittaker’s final episode will feature all kinds of throwbacks and cameos, including Sacha Dhawan’s The Master, the Daleks, the Cybermen, and the return of Janet Fielding and Sophie Aldred as former companions Tegan and Ace. According to Whittaker, it is a Doctor Who star-studded event you won’t want to miss. “It’s one for the Whovians,” she said. “It’s a huge treat if you’re a proper fan. It’s got all the iconic things that you associate with Doctor Who. It’s massive.”
Whittaker also said that the final scene is incredibly emotional. “I love the dialogue Chris wrote for my regeneration,” she said. “It captures my Doctor beautifully. It’s simple, epic and beautiful.” I think we will all need our tissue boxes by our side for this one!
If you want to read the rest of Whittaker’s interview, you can do so by checking out the Black Panther: Wakanda Forever issue of Empire. The issue is on sale on today, Thursday, September 29.
And as for Whittaker’s finale episode? You can check out “The Power of the Doctor” when it airs on BBC One in October.
