Last night’s episode of House of the Dragon ratcheted up the tension in the room by several degrees. Team Alicent and Team Rhaenyra were on thin ice before, but after the drama with Aemond’s eye, not to mention Alicent slashing Rhaenyra with a Valyrian steel blade, there’s no working things out peacefully.

For her part, Rhaenyra is digging in her heels for conflict, to the point where she fakes the death of her husband Laenor so she can marry the more militarily minded Daemon Targaryen, who can help shore up her claim.

The producers and actors behind House of the Dragon get into all of that in the latest Inside The Episode feature. Watch below!

Rhaenyra and Daemon Targaryen have a “dangerous chemistry” on House of the Dragon

I think the most interesting part of this video is actor Emma D’Arcy talking about Rhaenyra’s choice to marry Daemon. The way D’Arcy sees it, she’s trying to heal a rift in her soul caused by people constantly abandoning her. “It happens with her mum, it happens with her dad, it happens with Alicent, it happens with Daemon.”

That said, just because Rhaenyra and Daemon are attracted to each other doesn’t mean they’re going to have a perfect romance. “Rhaenyra and Daemon are made of the same stuff, that’s why they’re a terrible match,” D’Arcy said. “I think there’s a dangerous chemistry.”

Rhaenyra and Daemon definitely do have things in common. As Rhaenyra put it, “You and I are made of fire. We were always meant to burn together.” But a combustible relationship doesn’t always make for the happiest life. We’ll see how things go when House of the Dragon drops another new episode this upcoming Sunday on HBO and HBO Max.

Next. “Driftmark” is the best episode of House of the Dragon yet, but that ending…. dark
